City of Decatur

The City of Decatur is the most walkable, amenity-rich community without hustle and bustle of city living. Residents near Decatur Square place emphasis on all levels of education, cocktail culture and cuisine. It offers a MARTA train station, but no long-term parking. So if you need to drive to MARTA, consider locations closer to Candler Park, East Lake, Avondale or Kensington stations -- all of which allow you to park for free until operations shut down for the night.

The City of Decatur packs a lot of food and fun into just 4 square miles!  That's why I spend most of my free time enjoying the outstanding restaurants, pubs, boutiques, galleries, and salons.

This is what the official Web site has to say:

Foodies flock here for our critically acclaimed restaurants including many of Creative Loafing’s Best of Atlanta experiences.

There’s plenty to peruse on and around the square! Enjoy the stroll and take in our Artway public art series, with five sculptures installed around downtown and five on view in Oakhurst Village south of the square. Look down for Secret Doors Decatur, and #lookupdecatur for artworks installed on light poles. Murals pop up in unexpected places, and buskers bring music to our tree-shaded sidewalks. Make the after-hours scene here for live music, comedy, hand-crafted cocktails and small plates. Rising stars perform at Eddie’s Attic where the Indigo Girls, Sugarland, and John Mayer played in their early days (and still drop by for surprise visits).

Decatur is a festival town with a year-round calendar of family-friendly events that include free outdoor concerts, the Decatur Arts Festival, the Decatur Beach Party, the Decatur Book Festival, and so much more.

With three MARTA train stations inside its city limits, Decatur is well connected to downtown Atlanta, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and the world. Make Decatur your home away from home and jumping off point for metro attractions like the Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain Park, Mercedes Benz Stadium and more. Stay connected while you’re here with free wi-fi downtown, in Oakhurst Village, and at our biggest city parks.

Warm welcomes and good times – that’s a day in Decatur. Share your Decatur at #decaturga.
